ESLS 700/710 is an English course designed to meet the speaking and listening goals and objectives of Canadian Language Benchmark 7. The instructor will use a variety of teaching techniques and styles to address student needs. There will be in-class activities, language lab access, and grammar practice. Speaking and listening skills will be the main focus of the course. Reading and writing skills will be used to support class work. The ESL Intensive Program uses materials that help students to develop vocabulary, use idioms, and practise functional everyday expressions in order to conduct day-to-day exchanges in personal, business, and social interactions. Grammar topics will be considered as they arise in speaking and listening materials. Weekly assignments may include online listening homework, vocabulary reviews, presentations of newspaper articles, movie reviews, interviews and out of class research, class presentations, and situational role play dialogues. Regular speaking and listening tests are given.
